Hamilton's Terra Lightfoot is one of 10 English-language nominees for a $10,000 SOCAN Songwriting Prize.

The winner of the 11th annual contest - sponsored by the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada - will be determined by online voting by the public on the website socansongwritingprize.ca.

Lightfoot, who last month won Hamilton Music Awards for female artist of the year and songwriter of the year, is nominated for "No Hurry," from her critically acclaimed album Every Time My Mind Runs Wild on Hamilton's Sonic Unyon Records label.

Other English-language SOCAN nominees are The Strumbellas, Tobia Jesso Jr., Fast Romantics, Daniel Caesar, Spek Won, Jazz Cartier, Dilly Dally and Andy Shauf.

Fans can vote once daily for their favourite song until June 23, either through the website or Twitter using the hashtag #mySSPvote, and identifying the performer's name in the tweet.

Besides the $10,000 cash prize, the winner will also receive a Godin guitar, a Yamaha keyboard and a $500 gift card from Long & McQuade.
